Movie Moments

I was watching a movie the other day and there was a scene that made me laugh ... unfortunately the movie was not a comedy and I got to wondering if the Writer and Director had ever seen a movie before - because if they did, they might have left this scene on the floor as it was a lame, redundant - dare I say trite - scene replayed over and over throughout movie history ...

Let's say you're watching a movie where the main actor or actress is doing something unpopular in society or going up against some vague power (something like a Silkwood or Erin Brockovich) and he or she gets a threatening phone call at home with some oddly muffled voice on the other end making death threats or saying they're going to burn down their house and eat their children.

It always goes like this:

"ring ring"

Actress - Hello

Deep muffled threatening person - Is this Lisa?

... Yes

... You're going to die tomorrow and so is your daughter

... What?

... You and your daughter are going to die.

... (then the actress half screams into the phone)  Who is this!!!!!?  WHO THE HELL IS THIS? (and then she slams the phone down while crying and runs into the kitchen) ...

Did she really expect an answer?

Let's try it again from the middle of the above scene:

... You and your daughter are going to die.

... Who is this!!!!!?  WHO THE HELL IS THIS!!!?

... Lisa, it's Bob, from down the street you big silly, our kids play soccer together - you coming to the cookout next Saturday - Oh wait, my bad, you and your daughter will be dead by then.  Hey, we'll all be thinking about you - could you make that casserole before Thursday that we all love  ... and oh, I don't believe they plan on raping you two before killing you guys - well maybe your daughter but definitely not you you big cow ... but shit who knows, plans change.

... OK Bob, thanks for calling.
